About Cannons Marina
Our History: 56 Years and Counting!
In the early 1950’s Cannons Marina was operated as a fishing camp on Florida’s beautiful West Coast barrier island, Longboat Key, near Sarasota. Paul D. Miller purchased Cannons from Ernie Cannon in 1955 with a handshake. Paul’s son, David, started working in the marina at age five by counting bait for the local fisherman. In the 1970’s David purchased Cannons from his father and became a second-generation Florida boat dealer. Cannons Marina now celebrates over 56 years of uninterrupted family ownership and is proud to still be enthusiastically serving Florida’s boating enthusiasts.
Our goal is to deliver the best boat and motor products available, including Yamaha outboard motors. Not only do we supply you with the best products out there, we also make sure that we provide the utmost professionalism and exceptional customer service. With 56 years under our belt, we know how to make our customers happy.

For 13 years in a row, Grady-White Boats has awarded Cannons Marina the Admiral’s Circle award which designates us for excellence in customer service. Scout Boats named Cannons Marina the 2009 a Top Customer Service (CSI) Dealer of the Year. Consistently, we’ve earned Yamaha’s Outboard Motors’ Five-Star Certified Service Dealer. For three years in a row, Boating Industry magazine has named Cannons Marina as one of their “Top 100 Boat Dealers” and also ranked us as one of the highest in customer service in North America. Our excellence in customer service still continues today.
Readers of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Southwest Florida’s most trusted source of news and information, have chosen Cannons Marina as the Readers Choice Award winner for the past six years. In August 2010, Cannons Marina was voted again as the “Best Place to Buy a Boat” and was again a finalist for “Best Boat Yard/Marina.” We have won the Reader’s Choice Award as the “Best Place to Buy a Boat” from 2005 – 2010 and have also been a finalist for those years in the ‘Best Boat Yard/Marina’ category. We plan on continuing to be the “Reader’s Choice” for years to come!

We rent boats between 16 – 23 feet, and feature runabouts, deck boats and open skiffs This is a great options for people visiting our area and it’s also a wonderful perk for locals. Our rental boats are so much most cost-effective and flexible than buying membership in a boat club.
