Boating Destination: Boca Grande, Florida

Boca Grande, Florida Beach

Boating Destination: Boat to Boca Grande Island Florida

Boca Grande is a small island community on Gasparilla Island on Florida’s southwest Gulf coast about 30 miles west of Fort Myers and just north of Captiva Island.

World-class tarpon fishing is what makes Boca Grande so special. As a matter of fact, Boca Grande is known as the Tarpon Capital of the world, and it surely is. Boca Grande Pass is located at the south end of Gasparilla Island, and is one of the deepest natural inlets on the Gulf of Mexico.

Each year, tens of thousands of tarpon congregate in the pass and harbor from April to August to feed on the very healthy crab and shrimp populations as the “Silver Kings” prepare for their long swim offshore to spawn.

What happens during your 100-Hour Yamaha Outboard Motor Service?

July 1st, 2010 • By: LucyLu Boat Motors

Here at Cannons Marina, your Yamaha outboard motor service is important to us. Why?

Our goal is simple – Smooth running, reliable Yamaha motors = Happy, Satisfied Customers. We understand your time is limited, especially your free time. We want you on the water on your Grady White, Scout Boat or really any boat -  spending time with family and friends.

The items below are the maintenance and service recommendations developed by the Yamaha Motor Corporation to keep your motor running in top condition. These services are based purely on typical and “average” use of your Yamaha outboard motor. As with any motor, if your use is higher then “normal,” consider servicing your motor more often. Frequent service often pays off through increased life and performance of your Yamaha Outboard Motor.

Celebrate By Boat or Car the Local Fireworks: Anna Maria, Longboat Key, Sarasota or Siesta Key.

June 23rd, 2010 • By: LucyLu Events

Celebrate by boat or car the July 4th weekend  fireworks. They begin here in Longboat Key’s historic Village Friday, July 2nd on a barge just offshore from the Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub and Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant on Broadway Street! Or for those coming by boat, ICW marker # 39. The event is co- sponsored by Mar Vista, Moore’s, the Longboat Key Club and Resort, The Longboat Observer and Cannons Marina.

I especially love this light show, not because we sponsor it, but because it’s a really fun way to spend an evening whether on the bay or at one of our local restaurants. And if you’re planning on having a front row seat, I highly recommend making a reservation today. Mar Vista (941) 383-2391; Moore’s Stone Crab  941-383-1748.

Can’t make it to Longboat Key? For your convenience I have listed other local July 4th fireworks displays for Anna Maria, Palmetto Sarasota and Siesta Key.

June 15th, 2010 • By: LucyLu Boating Tips

Babies love boats and boating. And it doesn’t take much for babies and young children to get blistering sunburns, especially on boats or in the water.

The potential discomfort should be more than enough for parents to keep kids well protected while boating.

Did you know that childhood sunburn more than doubles their chance of developing melanoma later in life?

Not to mention that excess sun exposure can lead to dehydration.

There are several things that you can do to protect your little bundle of joy.
