At Cannons Marina, we sell a variety of dual console and center console Grady-White boats. But what exactly is the difference between the two? And which should you purchase based on your specific boating needs? Read on for more.
Dual Console Boats
Dual console boats are ideal for those seeking a versatile recreational boat that will easily adapt to a variety of activities. Often referred to as a crossover, dual console boats feature a helm on the right (starboard) side of the boat and a console—in Grady-White’s case, that includes a head, companion seat on the left (port side) and a walkway through the middle. The dual console bow offers a lounge area which also affords more storage options than a center console boat. This lounge area can often be converted into a casting platform for fishing or, with extra cushions, a large full-bow sunpad.
Larger dual console models generally offer cabin sleeping space as well as a full head and shower area. A terrific boat for families, dual consoles are good all-around boats for those who want to fish, cruise and enjoy water sports in any environment.
Center Console Boats
Designed with the serious angler in mind, but also great for family fun and cruising, center console boats place the helm in the center of the boat, allowing access from the bow to the stern along both sides. One major benefit of the center console design is that it allows anglers to move about the boat more freely when fighting a large fish.
Smaller center consoles are versatile boats suitable for inshore and offshore excursions, and can have storage and a head in the console. Large luxury center console boats include cabin space below the helm that might have a head, sink, storage and, in some cases, a sleeping area. The size of the boat will determine how far and wide you will want to venture, because its open nature tends to provide less protection than other styles—except when you get to the larger boats, which can handle more.
