Must-See Exhibit: Clyde Butcher, Landscape Photographer

Clyde Butcher's "Governor Chiles Cabin&quot
Clyde Butcher’s “Governor Chiles Cabin”

When we see something AWESOME – we have to tell you about it. And that’s how we felt after seeing the new Clyde Butcher exhibit at The Studio at Gulf and Pine.  Clyde Butcher is an inspiring landscape photographer, well known for his Ansel Adams-style black-and-white landscape photographs, of our own state. From the Keys to Myakka to the Panhandle, Butcher finds the real Florida and reminds us of just how BEAUTIFUL this state is.
As you may know, the former first lady of Florida, Rhea Chiles, owns the Studio, and she has a special connection to Clyde Butcher, which is how this exhibit came to be.  When Butcher won Florida’s Artist Hall of Fame Award, Governor Chiles happened to be at the reception (before he was Governor). Mr. Chiles asked Clyde if he would come photograph his cabin.  Of course, Butcher said “yes,” even though he thought it would be a mansion-type “cabin,” but when he arrived at Chiles’ house, he was wrong.  What he found was a one-room log cabin from the 1800’s that Chiles had rebuilt on his property log-by-log before the construction of I-10 was going to demolish it.  Butcher thought it was definitely worth photographing!  And so, one of the photographs on display is a spectacular one of the Chiles’ log cabin.  Not to be missed!
The exhibit is only here through February 26th (Wednesday – Sunday, 11-5), so you MUST take a trip down to the North end of Anna Maria! If it weren’t obvious by its name, The Studio at Gulf and Pine is located at the corner of Gulf Drive and Pine Avenue at 10101 Gulf Drive.
