Wow, we can’t believe that it has been 60 years since David’s father purchased a little former “fish camp”  in Longboat Key.  Today it is Cannons Marina, but back then, it was a boat rental and bait shop.  David was only five years old and when he started working at Cannons, counting bait for the tourists and local fishermen.  Wow, things were sure different then!  Rattlesnakes and wild hogs outnumbered the residents and dirt roads were the only way to get around on land.  Going by boat was the preferred mode of transportation.) It still is today…especially during season!)
60 years later and we’re still going strong! Since beginning as a bait shop, we have come a long way.  Our ship’s store still offers bait (and a perfect place to get ice and drinks when you are hanging out at Jewfish Key) but we are now better known for selling boats.  According to Boating Industry magazine, we are one of the “Top 100 Boat Dealers” in North America. Cannons is also one of the nation’s top-selling Grady-White Boat dealers and has been honored with Grady-White’s Bronze Anchor Award for customer service and has received 16 consecutive years of the Admiral’s Circle Award.  Cannons Marina is also a certified Yamaha outboard motor dealer and consecutively receives Yamaha’s 5-Star Dealer award.   In addition to boat sales, we are the area’s best spot for boat rentals, featuring a full fleet of pristine boats that locals and tourists can rent for a half or full day.
